Write a simple sentence, then add words to make it have more meaning.
The objective of this exercise is to drill students on how to add more meaning to a sentence by simply adding words to its basic structure. If learners are made to enjoy this exercise, they will build a good foundation for themselves for essay writing in the future. For beginners, it is important to start practice with very basic sentences with three words only and aim at reaching sentences containing 20 words.
For intermediate learners, this exercise can be modified to become a bit more difficult and using more complex words.
Students taking this exercise are advised to study and understand interrogative pronouns (what, who, when, where, which, whose, why, how) first. That knowledge will help them to easily come up with ideas that can be added to each sentence.
